The Indian government has ordered the streaming service ZEE5 to remove the biographical movie 'Satluj' from its library in India shortly after its release.

Directed by Honey Trehan and starring Diljit Dosanjh, the film tells the story of human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra. It focuses on his investigation into illegal cremations carried out by the Punjab Police between 1984 and 1994. The project faced many problems with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), which requested over 120 cuts. Because the filmmakers refused to make these changes, they gave up on a cinema release and lost a legal battle to keep the film unedited.

After the film premiered digitally on July 3, it was removed two days later. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting emphasized that the filmmakers tried to avoid CBFC rules by changing the title to 'Satluj'. The government used the Information Technology Act to order the removal, citing 'security concerns' and claiming the film could be used as anti-India propaganda. Consequently, a high-level committee has been formed to review the content and meet with the producer, Ronnie Screwvala.

On the other hand, some critics argued that the lead actor should avoid content that might cause social unrest. Meanwhile, political leaders are split between those who see this as an attack on historical truth and those who want a full review of the situation.
