The current unrest was caused by the murder of a young girl in Baruipur, whose body was found in a pond on July 5. This event led to a TMC-led protest march on Wednesday. Although the Calcutta High Court allowed the rally, it set strict rules regarding the route and timing to avoid public disruption. Despite these rules, violent fights broke out between TMC youth members and BJP workers, who reportedly blocked the path and used offensive slogans. Consequently, security forces had to use baton charges to separate the two groups.

The BJP described the death as 'divine justice' and a sign of their 'zero tolerance' policy toward violence against women. In contrast, the TMC called the encounter 'jungle law,' with MP Kirti Azad suggesting that the event was staged to prevent Mondal from revealing BJP secrets.

The BJP denied these claims, arguing that the unrest was actually caused by internal conflicts within the TMC after their election losses. Additionally, the TMC claimed that police deployment was used to stop leaders from visiting the victim's family, though the BJP dismissed this as standard security for a high-profile leader.

The situation remains tense, with both sides accusing each other of state-sponsored violence and ignoring the law, while legal proceedings against other suspects continue.
