International Police Operation Targets Organized Crime Groups Based in India

Introduction

US federal prosecutors, working together with authorities from Canada and Europe, have released charges against 37 people. These individuals are linked to three criminal organizations based in India as part of a mission called 'Operation Hard Ball'.

Main Body

The main part of the legal case focuses on the Lawrence Bishnoi group. Prosecutors claim that Bishnoi, who is currently in an Indian prison, used illegal phones to manage a global network involved in drug trafficking, extortion, and planned killings. Specifically, they assert that Bishnoi and his commander in North America, Satinderjeet Singh, organized the murder of Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Canada in June 2023. This is an important detail because it suggests the killing was done by criminals rather than government agents, which contradicts earlier claims made by former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. Lisa Moreland of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police emphasized that the investigation found no evidence that Indian officials were involved.

At the same time, charges have been filed against the Jaggu Bhagwanpuria and Ravinder Singh Dhanda groups. The Bhagwanpuria group is accused of using corrupt officials to create fake criminal charges against rivals to steal money. For example, a Punjab Police officer is accused of trying to extort $400,000 from a family in California by threatening them with false murder charges. Meanwhile, the Dhanda network focused on moving large amounts of cocaine and methamphetamine from California into Canada. Consequently, these operations led to the seizure of about 1,000 kilograms of cocaine and various weapons, and 24 of the 37 suspects are now in custody.

Conclusion

Authorities are currently working to catch the remaining fugitives and are trying to bring the imprisoned gang leaders to the United States to face trial.

The Power of 'Linking' Words (Moving from A2 to B2)

At an A2 level, students usually write short, choppy sentences. Example: The group moved cocaine. They went from California to Canada.

To reach B2, you must learn to 'glue' your ideas together using Connectors. This makes your English sound professional and fluid rather than like a list.

🧩 The 'Logic Glue' found in this text:

  1. The Result-Maker: Consequently

    • Text: "...moving large amounts of cocaine... Consequently, these operations led to the seizure..."
    • Why it's B2: A2 students say "So". B2 students use "Consequently" or "Therefore" to show a professional cause-and-effect relationship.
  2. The Contrast-Builder: Rather than

    • Text: "...done by criminals rather than government agents..."
    • Why it's B2: Instead of using two separate sentences with "but," this phrase allows you to compare two opposite ideas inside a single breath. It is precise and elegant.
  3. The Addition-Tool: Meanwhile

    • Text: "Meanwhile, the Dhanda network focused on moving..."
    • Why it's B2: This is a 'transition word.' It tells the reader: "I am finished talking about Group A, and now I am moving to Group B, but both things are happening at the same time."
