Four newborn babies have died after being born in a private vehicle in the Mandla district of Madhya Pradesh.

The incident began when Rajni Singaram, a resident of Naigaon, went into labor during her seventh month of pregnancy. She first received medical help at the Ghuthas government health center, but doctors later sent her to the Bichhiya Community Health Centre because her condition was critical. During this second trip, which was made in an autorickshaw, the patient gave birth to quadruplets. Unfortunately, medical staff at the hospital declared all four infants dead when they arrived.

There is a disagreement regarding the cause of the deaths. The patient's husband, Ganesh Singaram, asserted that the 108 emergency ambulance service failed to respond to their requests. Consequently, they had to use private transport, which he believes put the infants' lives at risk. On the other hand, health officials, including Dr. D J Mohanty and Anup Kumar Bharatiya, emphasized that the deaths were caused by the babies being underdeveloped. They noted that the infants were born at around 30 weeks with an average weight of 1.5 kilograms.

Regarding the official response, District Magistrate Rahul Namdev Dhote stated that an investigation is currently happening. However, he clarified that any formal disciplinary action depends on whether a formal complaint is filed.
