The Indian government has ordered the removal of the movie 'Satluj' from the ZEE5 streaming service, which has led to unofficial community screenings in Jammu.

The film, directed by Honey Trehan, faced several problems with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The board originally refused to approve the movie under its previous titles, 'Ghallughara' and 'Punjab ’95', unless 127 specific scenes were deleted. Although the filmmakers tried to challenge this in court, they received no help, and the legal case ended in July 2025. Consequently, the producers decided to rename the project 'Satluj' and released it on a streaming platform on July 3 to avoid theatrical certification.

However, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting soon intervened. Using the Information Technology Act 2000, the government blocked the content on July 5 and later made the ban permanent. Officials emphasized that the film posed a risk to national security and sovereignty. Furthermore, the government questioned whether ZEE5 had properly checked the film's background before streaming a production that had already been flagged by regulators.

In response to this ban, the District Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (DGPC) in Jammu began organizing community screenings. One such event at Gurdwara Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji was attended by people from various faiths. Sardar Jagpal Singh, a committee official, asserted that the government is trying to hide historical truths about Jaswant Singh Khalra. The film focuses on Khalra's disappearance in 1995 and the claims that he was killed by police during the Punjab insurgency.

While the film remains banned on digital platforms for security reasons, local community screenings continue in several Gurdwaras.
