A well-known digital content creator has taken back his claims that E20 blended petrol caused a drop in vehicle fuel efficiency, following a technical check and a statement from the company.

The situation began when a popular vlogger, Sourav Joshi, posted content claiming that the fuel economy of his Mercedes-Benz SUV had dropped sharply. He asserted that his efficiency fell from 17 kmpl to 5 kmpl in just 48 hours, and he also noticed that his driving range decreased from 800 to 480 kilometers. Because of this, he suggested that using E20 fuel—which is a mix of 20% ethanol and 80% petrol—was the main cause of the engine problems and the loss of efficiency.

此事始於一名知名 Vlogger Sourav Joshi 發布內容，聲稱其賓士 SUV 的油耗大幅下降。他主張其油耗在僅 48 小時內從 17 kmpl 跌至 5 kmpl，且注意到行駛里程從 800 公里減少至 480 公里。因此，他建議使用 E20 燃料（由 20% 乙醇與 80% 汽油混合而成）是導致引擎問題與油耗下降的主因。

In response to these public claims, Mercedes-Benz India issued an official statement. The manufacturer emphasized that all BS VI petrol vehicles in its range are fully compatible with E20 fuel, as they have been certified by the necessary government authorities. Consequently, the company denied that the fuel was responsible for the issues mentioned by the vlogger.

After a technical inspection at an authorized service center, the vlogger admitted that the drop in efficiency was actually caused by a specific engine fault rather than the type of fuel used. As a result, he apologized for the mistake and updated his content to remove the incorrect information. Meanwhile, the Indian government has defended the ethanol-blending program, stating that it provides major economic benefits, such as supporting farmers and saving approximately ₹1.90 lakh crore in foreign exchange since 2014-15.
