Protests in San Jose After Mexican National is Killed by Federal Agents
Introduction
Public protests have broken out in San Jose, California, following the death of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, who was shot by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents in Houston, Texas.
Main Body
The incident happened on July 7. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) claimed that Salgado Araujo did not follow verbal orders and tried to hit agents with his car, which forced the officers to shoot in self-defense. However, federal authorities later admitted that the man was not the actual target of the operation because he was mistaken for someone else. Furthermore, two passengers in the car disagreed with the official story, asserting that the shooting happened through a side window and that there was no immediate threat. Because the officers were not wearing body cameras, there is now significant pressure on the government to be more accountable.
At the same time, local activists are using these protests to oppose the construction of a new ICE detention center near Gilroy. The California Attorney General has started legal action to stop the development of this 24-acre site, claiming that it violates state environmental and immigration laws. Consequently, these events show a wider criticism of federal enforcement methods, as emphasized by local residents and members of the Community Service Organization.
Conclusion
The situation continues as people demand a transparent investigation and legal challenges continue against the expansion of federal facilities in California.

🚀 The "Logic Link" Upgrade
To move from A2 (simple sentences) to B2 (fluid arguments), you must stop using and, but, and so for everything. Look at how this text connects complex ideas.
The Power Move: Logical Connectors
Instead of saying "and," the text uses Furthermore. Instead of saying "so," the text uses Consequently.
These aren't just 'fancy words'; they tell the reader how the ideas relate.
- Furthermore "I have one point, and here is an extra, stronger point."
- Consequently "Action A happened, and as a direct result, Situation B exists."
✍️ Level-Up Examples
| A2 Style (Simple) | B2 Bridge (Professional) |
|---|---|
| It rained, so the game stopped. | It rained; consequently, the game was cancelled. |
| He is smart and he is hardworking. | He is highly intelligent; furthermore, he is incredibly hardworking. |
⚠️ The 'Contradiction' Shift
Notice the word However. In A2, we use But at the start of a sentence. In B2, we use However followed by a comma to create a formal pause. It signals a total shift in perspective.
- Text Example: "...forced the officers to shoot in self-defense. However, federal authorities later admitted..."
Pro Tip: If you want to sound like a B2 speaker tomorrow, replace one "But" and one "So" in your next conversation with However and Consequently.
