Meta Platforms is significantly increasing its computing power by developing its own computer chips and expanding large-scale data centers across the United States.

Furthermore, Meta intends to increase its total computing power to 14 gigawatts by 2027, using long-term agreements with Samsung Electronics, Sandisk, and Sumitomo Electric to avoid global chip shortages.

At the same time, Meta is expanding the 'Hyperion' supercluster in Louisiana. The company has increased the facility's projected capacity to 5 gigawatts, with estimated costs now exceeding $50 billion. This growth is supported by state incentives, such as a 20-year sales tax exemption. Although Meta asserts that the project provides huge economic benefits—including $1.6 billion in local contracts—it has faced criticism from environmental groups. For instance, Earthjustice requested an investigation into the project's funding to protect utility consumers, although this request was rejected.
