A police officer from New South Wales has received a sentence that does not include prison time after being convicted for the death of a sixteen-year-old Indigenous teenager.

The court found that the officer created a significant risk because he did not use sirens or lights to warn the rider and failed to predict how the rider would react.

However, the judge mentioned that the victim's mother did not want the officer to go to prison, which the court found to be a humbling request.
