The British Columbia Review Board has granted a conditional discharge to Allan Schoenborn. He was previously found not criminally responsible for the 2008 deaths of his three children.

If the board decides it is necessary, Schoenborn must return to the Forensic Psychiatric Hospital in Coquitlam.

On the other hand, the Ministry of the Attorney General stated that the necessary conditions were included in the order. Additionally, legal expert Isabel Grant noted that the goal of this legal framework is to manage risk in the community rather than to keep people in prison forever.

This case also led to changes in provincial law. After Schoenborn changed his legal name to Ken John Johnson in 2021, the government passed the Name Amendment Act (No. 2) in September 2024. Consequently, people aged 12 and older who want to change their names must now undergo criminal record checks. This ensures that individuals convicted of serious crimes cannot avoid accountability by simply changing their identity.
