FIFA's Payment Plan for Clubs in the 2026 World Cup

Introduction

FIFA has created a financial system to pay professional football clubs for allowing their players to participate in the 2026 World Cup.

Main Body

The FIFA Club Benefit Programme has a total budget of £265 million to help clubs manage the loss of players during the tournament. This event will take place in the United States, Canada, and Mexico from June 11 to July 19. Out of the total fund, £187 million is for the main tournament and £75 million is for those who played in the qualifiers, while the rest will support global club football development.

Payments are calculated daily, starting from May 25. Clubs will receive £3,730 per day for each player until the day after the player's last match. Consequently, a club will earn £119,500 if their player is knocked out in the group stage, whereas they will receive £212,900 if the player reaches the final. If a player transfers to a new club or becomes a free agent, the original club receives the payments until June 30, after which the new club takes over.

This payment system first started during the 2010 World Cup. However, the current daily rate is much lower than the £8,150 paid during the 2022 Qatar World Cup. FIFA emphasized that this reduction is because the tournament has expanded from 32 to 48 teams, meaning the money must be shared among more clubs. As a result, teams with many players in the tournament, such as Manchester City, Arsenal, and Manchester United, will be significantly affected.

Conclusion

In summary, FIFA's current system provides a standard, though lower, daily payment to clubs while their players are on international duty.

🚀 The 'Logic Link' Leap

To move from A2 to B2, you must stop using only and, but, and because. B2 speakers use Connectors of Consequence and Contrast to make their writing feel professional and fluid.

⚡ The Power Move: Consequently & As a result

In the text, we see: "Consequently, a club will earn £119,500..."

A2 Level: "The player is out, so the club gets less money." B2 Level: "The player is knocked out in the group stage; consequently, the club receives a smaller payment."

Coach's Tip: Use these at the start of a sentence to show a direct mathematical or logical result. It transforms a simple statement into an analytical observation.

⚖️ The Comparison Tool: Whereas

Look at this sentence: *"...£119,500 if their player is knocked out... whereas they will receive £212,900 if the player reaches the final."

While A2 students use but, B2 students use whereas to put two opposite facts side-by-side in one elegant sentence.

A2 (Basic)B2 (Advanced Bridge)
The 2022 rate was high, but the 2026 rate is low.The 2022 rate was high, whereas the current rate is significantly lower.

🛠️ Vocabulary Upgrade: Precision Verbs

Instead of saying 'FIFA said', the text uses emphasized.

  • Say/Tell \rightarrow Generic (A2)
  • Emphasize \rightarrow To give special importance to a point (B2)

Try this mental shift: Next time you want to say "I want to say that...", try "I would like to emphasize that..."
