The discovery of an 11-year-old girl's body in southwestern France has caused a national debate about whether the state's legal system is effective enough in protecting children.

Records show that since 2017, several reports of sexual violence involving children had been filed against him. However, due to administrative delays, the file was not opened for several weeks, meaning the suspect was not contacted for three months before the kidnapping occurred.

To deal with a backlog of 70,000 sexual assault cases, the Minister has ordered a full review of all such complaints by July 14. Consequently, senior judges are forbidden from taking leave until this audit is finished.
