The Delaney Hall immigration detention center in Newark, New Jersey, has become the center of serious protests and legal arguments following claims of poor conditions and medical neglect.

In response, the Trump administration, represented by Tom Homan and Markwayne Mullin, strongly denied these claims. Mr. Homan visited the facility unexpectedly to eat the meals himself, later stating that the food was adequate and arguing that the protests were simply political attempts to weaken the ICE agency.

Because of this volatility, Governor Mikie Sherrill deployed state police to create specific protest zones, and Mayor Ras Baraka started a temporary curfew. Furthermore, the legal conflict grew when the New Jersey Attorney General sued the private company, Geo Group, for allegedly blocking state health inspectors.

Senator Kim also noted a detainee who seemed to be in physical pain and claimed there is a serious shortage of doctors, with only one full-time physician for several hundred people. However, the Department of Homeland Security maintains that the facility follows all necessary federal rules.
