Vancouver police officers fatally shot a suspect on Monday evening after responding to a home invasion and a hostage situation.

溫哥華警方在週一晚上處理一起入屋搶劫及人質事件時，開槍擊斃了一名嫌犯。

The incident began at approximately 9:00 PM on Commercial Street, where the Vancouver Police Department (VPD) responded to reports of a violent break-in. Upon arrival, officers found a suspect who had illegally entered a home and was holding a man hostage.

事件發生在晚上 9 點左右的 Commercial Street，溫哥華警察局 (VPD) 接獲報案稱有人暴力闖入住宅。警方抵達後，發現一名嫌犯非法進入民宅並將一名男子挾持為人質。

Although officers tried to use de-escalation techniques to resolve the crisis peacefully, the situation eventually led to the use of lethal force. Consequently, the suspect died at the scene. The hostage was taken to the hospital due to his injuries, but he has since been released. No police officers were injured during the event, and the relationship between the suspect and the victim is still unknown.

As a result, the Independent Investigations Office (IIO) has taken over the case. The IIO is a civilian-led organization in British Columbia that is required to investigate any incident involving death or serious injury to determine if police actions contributed to the outcome.

The suspect is dead, the victim has left the hospital, and the IIO is now carrying out a formal investigation.
