This report describes how a dead humpback whale was used for industrial purposes in Denmark and the current efforts to find and help an entangled right whale off the coast of New Brunswick.

A female humpback whale named 'Timmy' washed ashore on the island of Anholt. After an autopsy was performed, which could not determine the exact cause of death, the body was sent to a Daka Denmark facility in Randers. The company processed the whale in three ways: water components were cleaned and released into the fjord, fat was turned into biodiesel, and the bones and skin were converted into biomass for cement factories. Additionally, some bones were kept for the Natural History Museum in Copenhagen. Before it died, the whale had been moved toward the North Sea by a cargo ship. The Ministry of the Environment in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern confirmed they have the satellite tracking data, which will be released to the public soon.

Meanwhile, experts have spotted a five-year-old male North Atlantic right whale, known as No. 5192, which is entangled in fishing gear near Shippagan, New Brunswick. The whale was last seen during an aerial survey over the Gulf of St. Lawrence. Consequently, the federal Fisheries Department and rescue organizations have created a plan to help. They intend to attach a satellite tag to the gear to track the whale's movements. If the weather and sea conditions are good, they will attempt to remove the gear. This rescue is critical because the species is endangered, with fewer than 400 individuals remaining, although population numbers have risen slightly since 2020.

While one whale has been used for industrial and scientific purposes, the other is still being monitored and targeted for a rescue operation.
