Jaspal Rana, a highly successful Indian pistol shooter and respected coach, passed away on June 11, 2026, at the age of 49 due to heart complications.

Mr. Rana's medical emergency began during a flight home from the ISSF World Cup in Munich, Germany, where he felt severe chest pain. After being admitted to Max Super Speciality Hospital in Delhi, doctors found a complete blockage in his artery and severe heart failure. Although doctors successfully inserted a stent, Mr. Rana unfortunately died from a sudden heart rupture while sleeping on Thursday night.

During his athletic career, Mr. Rana achieved great international success, winning four Asian Games gold medals and fifteen Commonwealth Games medals. He reached his peak performance during the 2006 Asian Games in Doha. However, he later emphasized that a lack of discipline and professional coaching in his early years prevented him from winning an Olympic medal, despite competing in the 1996 Atlanta Games.

His coaching style focused on mental strength and strict discipline rather than just technical skills. This approach helped several top shooters, including Manu Bhaker, who won two bronze medals at the 2024 Paris Olympics. This success came after a period of tension and public disagreement with the NRAI before the Tokyo Olympics. For his achievements, the Indian government honored him with the Arjuna Award, the Padma Shri, and the Dronacharya Award.
