Police authorities in Lima, Peru, recently arrested a suspected drug trafficker by using costumes based on the World Cup.

The operation was carried out by the Green Squadron, a special unit responsible for reducing common crime. Under the leadership of Colonel Carlos Alcántara, officers dressed as 'Clutch' (a bald eagle) and 'Maple' (a moose), who are the official mascots of the World Cup. This strategy was based on intelligence showing that the suspect loved football; consequently, the disguises allowed the police to approach him without causing suspicion. The officers eventually entered the building using a metal battering ram.

After arresting 48-year-old Carlos Cabrera, the police found a gun and 2,524 packets of cocaine base. According to Peruvian law, small-scale trafficking of cocaine base can lead to a prison sentence of three to seven years. Furthermore, this incident is part of a wider police strategy where officers wear unusual costumes to make arrests. In the past, they have used costumes such as the Grinch, Freddy Krueger, Deadpool, Wolverine, Santa Claus, and even a capybara.
