The Maharashtra government is considering the creation of a special administrative category for children of single mothers in higher and technical education to provide them with better support.

This initiative is part of a larger policy announced during the budget session to empower single mothers. The government plans to introduce a 'Single Parent Child' option on college admission forms because there is currently no formal way to record this information. Consequently, this change will allow the state to count these students accurately and provide the specific welfare services they need.

此舉是預算會議期間宣布的一項旨在賦權單親母親的大規模政策的一部分。政府計劃在大學入學申請表中引入「單親家庭子女」選項，因為目前缺乏正式記錄此類資訊的途徑。因此，此項變更將使州政府能夠準確統計這些學生的數量，並提供其所需的特定福利服務。

To manage this process, the government is setting up several committees. A first group, led by the Commissioner of the Women and Child Development Department, has already been formed. Furthermore, the Higher and Technical Education Department will create a second high-level committee. This group will analyze practical benefits, such as priority for hostel rooms, psychological counseling, and improved admission rules.

To make sure the plan works, the administration has organized an online meeting on June 17 with principals from about 1,500 colleges. The goal of this meeting is to understand the current situation and standardize how eligible students register, ensuring they can easily access government schemes and mainstream education.
