Viktor Orban has been appointed as the leader of the Fidesz party for another year following the party's defeat in the April parliamentary elections.

Mr. Orban's leadership was confirmed during a party meeting where 729 out of 737 delegates voted for him. This decision comes after some former allies suggested that he should retire from politics. Mr. Orban admitted that the party made strategic mistakes, such as underestimating how many people would vote and failing to understand how digital algorithms influenced young voters. Consequently, he has proposed a reorganization of Fidesz to turn it from a governing party into a 'movement party' with better local organization.

Meanwhile, the political situation in Hungary has changed significantly. The Tisza party, led by Prime Minister Peter Magyar, won a two-thirds majority in parliament. This allows the new government to cancel constitutional changes made by the previous administration, which had limited the independence of courts, universities, and the media. Furthermore, the new government has improved relations with the European Union by removing its veto on Ukraine's EU membership process. As a result, the EU has released 16.4 billion euros in frozen funds. Recent data from the Publicus Institute shows that support for Tisza has risen to 55 percent, while support for Fidesz has fallen to 17 percent.
