The Indian government, working together with Omani authorities, has organized the rescue and return of crew members from two commercial ships operating in the Gulf region.

Twenty Indian nationals from the MT Jalveer were repatriated after a security incident on June 11, 2026. The Omani Navy carried out the evacuation, and the crew stayed in Muscat until June 14. This operation was supported by the Indian Embassy and the ship's technical and operational teams. At the same time, the Indian-flagged MSV Virat-1 sank about 80 nautical miles from Ras Al Hadd. The Directorate General of Shipping confirmed that all fourteen crew members were safely rescued and are now traveling back to Mumbai on the Jabal Ali 9.

These emergencies happened during a period of regional instability caused by tensions between the US and Iran, which led to attacks on commercial ships. Consequently, the Indian government had to take strong diplomatic action. New Delhi summoned the US Charge d'Affaires, Jason Meeks, twice in 48 hours to formally protest these maritime attacks. This happened after three Indian sailors died during an attack on the MT Settebello. The Indian government emphasized that it opposes the use of force against civilian ships and remains committed to protecting its citizens abroad.
