Report on the Arrest of Two Mexican Citizens for Federal and State Crimes in the U.S.

Introduction

U.S. law enforcement agencies have arrested Lorenzo Rojas-Martinez in Georgia and have extradited Arnoldo Jimenez to Illinois.

Main Body

Lorenzo Rojas-Martinez was arrested on June 12 after he flew a drone in a restricted area. This zone was created by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for the 2026 FIFA Fan Festival at Centennial Olympic Park. FBI agents arrested the Mexican citizen after they discovered he was in the U.S. illegally. According to the U.S. Attorney's Office, Rojas-Martinez had been deported twice before, in 2013 and 2019. Furthermore, his criminal record includes convictions for drug trafficking, fraud, and theft, as well as a previous arrest for driving under the influence.

At the same time, the FBI arranged for Arnoldo Jimenez to be transferred from Mexico to Chicago. Jimenez was once the fourth-most wanted person on the FBI's 'Ten Most Wanted' list. He was captured in Monterrey in January 2025 through a joint operation between Mexican authorities and the Burbank police department. Jimenez is accused of killing Estrella Carrera in 2012 in Burbank, Illinois. Consequently, he now faces charges of first-degree murder and federal charges for fleeing the country to avoid trial.

Conclusion

Both men are currently in U.S. custody while they wait for their court dates.

⚡ The 'Logical Glue' Transition

To move from A2 to B2, you must stop writing short, choppy sentences. A2 students say: "He did this. He did that. Also, he did this." B2 students use Connectors to show how ideas relate.

Look at these words from the text that act as 'glue':

  • Furthermore \rightarrow Use this when you want to add a stronger or more serious point. (e.g., The hotel was expensive. Furthermore, the service was terrible.)
  • Consequently \rightarrow Use this instead of 'so' to show a formal result. (e.g., He broke the law. Consequently, he is in jail.)

🛠️ The Passive Shift: Focusing on the Action

In A2 English, we usually say who did the action first: "The police arrested the man."

But in professional reports (B2 level), we use the Passive Voice. This puts the person receiving the action first because they are the main topic.

Compare these transforms:

A2 Style (Active)B2 Style (Passive)
The FBI arrested Lorenzo.Lorenzo was arrested...
The police captured Jimenez.Jimenez was captured...

The Secret Formula: Be (was/were) + Past Participle (3rd column of verbs).

🔍 Vocabulary Upgrade

Stop using "basic" words. Replace them with the Precise Terms found in the article to sound more fluent:

  • Instead of 'Moved to another country' \rightarrow use Extradited (specific to law).
  • Instead of 'A place where you can't go' \rightarrow use Restricted area.
  • Instead of 'Caught' \rightarrow use Captured.
