Introduction

The National Testing Agency (NTA) is organizing a re-examination of the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test Undergraduate (NEET-UG) on June 21, 2026. This decision follows the cancellation of the first exam on May 3 due to systemic problems and leaked question papers.

Main Body

The cancellation of the May 3 exam affected approximately 22.7 lakh candidates. This happened because officials discovered that leaked materials were very similar to the official exam paper. To stop cheating networks, the government temporarily banned the Telegram app; however, digital rights activists criticized this move as a form of censorship.

Local authorities have also issued orders to restrict movement around the 5,440 exam centers to maintain order.

This incident led political figures, such as Rahul Gandhi, to criticize the agency for a lack of accountability. Meanwhile, experts suggest that India needs a more professional system, such as computer-based testing, to handle such large-scale national exams.
