A Special Investigation Team (SIT) is currently investigating claims of stolen funds and irregular purchasing practices related to the Ram temple in Ayodhya.

The SIT was formed on June 13 after the temple trust requested an inquiry. The team includes high-ranking officials from the Lucknow administration, the police, and the Finance Department. They are focusing on missing records of gold, silver, and gemstones donated by visitors. The investigators are paying close attention to the early 2025 Maha Kumbh Mela, as the huge number of daily visitors made it difficult to monitor all donations. Furthermore, political parties such as the Samajwadi Party and Aam Aadmi Party claim that the Trust bought land at prices much higher than the actual market value.

At the same time, the SIT is reviewing how the Trust hires its staff. There are reports that about 200 out of 800 employees were hired without following standard rules, possibly because they had personal connections to Trust leaders. The team is also examining the behavior of senior officials, as some believe these leaders knew about the missing money but did nothing to stop it. Consequently, the SIT has ordered the involved officials to stay in Ayodhya while the final report is prepared for Chief Minister Adityanath.

The SIT is now writing a preliminary report for the Chief Minister. After this, legal action and official police reports (FIRs) are expected against those found guilty.
