The New South Wales Government has detailed a structural replacement plan for a compromised section of the Great Western Highway, including a revised reopening timeline and expanded financial subsidies for affected commercial entities.

Geotechnical assessments confirmed that while the superficial causeway exhibited critical failure, the underlying bedrock remained viable. Consequently, the administration determined that the maintenance of the existing alignment would be more fiscally and temporally efficient than the procurement of an alternative route.

The historical structure will undergo stabilization and grouting to ensure its preservation. Furthermore, the new design will facilitate an increase in traffic capacity by providing an additional lane, addressing the limitations of the previous single-lane configuration.

This expansion increases the maximum grant threshold from $10,000 to $25,000 for businesses in Mount Victoria, Hartley, Little Hartley, and Hartley Vale, while extending eligibility to approximately 1,900 additional enterprises in Lithgow, Oberon, and Blackheath.
